Essential Information

 << Special Customs / laws >>
Like many other countries, Egypt does not allow antiques or artifacts to be taken outside the country without special permission. This includes protected plants and corals even if you have bought them legally. It is against Egyptian law to remove anything from wrecks or the sea.

As divers we are expected to respect the underwater world. Look-but do not touch. So we ask that you do not use dive gloves during your stay.

 << Culture >>
Egypt is very westernised but is still predominately Muslim, please respect their culture by wearing shorts/ t-shirts etc while in the town and ladies, although going topless is permitted on the boat, we recommend bathing wear.

 << Currency >>
The Egyptian currency is the Egyptian pound (LE), although English pounds and Euros are widely accepted. The American Dollar is the favoured foreign currency, smaller denominations is advisable. Please check for current exchange rates near the time of your departure.

 << Mobile Telephones >>
Your mobile telephone will work on the boat whilst you are near the coast line. There are places you will not be able to obtain signal depending on you itinerary. Check availability and pricing with your service provider.

 << Visa >>
You are required to purchase a visa on entry into Egypt. To avoid long queues on arrival, your Blue Planet representative will have these ready for you. Payments for these are generally organsied before departure.

 << Park Fees >>
Park fees are charged per day and are applicable to itineraries which cover these areas. They are payable before departure and are obtained once you have embarked.

 << Beverages >>
All non-alcoholic drinks including: bottled water, tea/coffee and a limited selection of fizzy drinks are free. There is a charge for Egyptian beer and wine. You are welcome to bring your own spirits and a selection of lager is available for purchase at the duty free shop in the arrivals lounge at the airport. In the interest of safety please do not consume alcohol if you are planning to continue diving that day.

 << Packing >>
In the Red Sea we have a dry desert climate. You can expect a temperature of 40°C in the summer time. In the winter it gets colder in the evenings and can be windy. A fleece is adequate for evenings on deck. Make sure you pack sun screen and a hat.

 << Tips >>
In Egypt tipping is expected and normally done on the day you leave the boat. An average tip is £25 British pounds

 << Nitrox Diving >>
At the time of booking please let us know if you would like to use Nitrox and how many dives you will be doing.
